Learned a Writing Preference

Today I learned that I prefer to write opinion and logical, common-sense pieces more than research papers. I enjoy constructing a well-rounded argument; I just hate having to actively research and cite others opinions and research. I feel like a narrow-minded person saying that, as if I'm not open to other people's opinions. But that's not the truth.

I enjoy reading and considering outside perspectives. I just don't want to be forced to paraphrase them. I want to distill and analyze my own thoughts. It helps me process. Perhaps that's what college would convince is what they want, my own original thoughts. It's just they want them intertwined with others and I prefer to draw a line between my own mind and the mind of others.

I feel a bit whiney writing this, as if I'm justifying my distaste for research papers (which I've grimaced at since the 7th grade by the way). I don't think that's what I'm doing. I think I'm just processing in writing form, writing exactly what I like to write: the distillation of my thoughts.
